One character, two sounds.

In Chinese, one character can have more than one sound. 行 is háng in 银行, a bank, and xíng in 不行, no good. Lymi treats each sound as its own word, with its own card and its own pinyin.

Pinyin fades as you learn.

A card shows pinyin over its word until the card is Known. In the examples on your cards, pinyin leaves each character you’ve learned, and stays where a character sounds different.

Simplified or traditional?

Either. Each deck is one or the other, and Lymi never converts between them. The free HSK decks are simplified.

Does Lymi show pinyin?

Yes, with tone marks. A card shows pinyin over its word until the card is Known. In the examples on your cards, pinyin leaves each character you’ve learned. Turning a card over always shows it.

What does a card ask me?

One way at a time: the Chinese for its meaning, or the meaning for the Chinese. You think of the answer, turn the card over and say how well you knew it. There’s nothing to type.

Can I bring my Pleco flashcards?

Yes. Export them from Pleco as a text file and import it. Categories become tags, the other script becomes a note, and tone numbers become marks.

Can I bring my Anki deck?

Yes. Cards keep their pinyin, their schedule and their word recordings. Sentence recordings stay behind.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Lymi runs in the browser on your phone and your computer, and you can add it to your home screen. Your cards and progress are the same on both.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Lymi is free to use.
